10 Central Indiana Winter Events and Activities

Don’t stay cooped up all winter! Check out one of these events and activities this winter in the Indianapolis area!

There’s way more than just corn in Indiana! Get out of your apartment this winter for one of these ten Central Indiana activities.

1.       Circle of Lights

One of the most beloved Circle City traditions, running for more than half a century the Circle of Lights kicks off the holiday season the day after Thanksgiving by lighting what is claimed to be the world’s largest Christmas tree in Monument Circle. There’s always fantastic entertainment before the actual lighting, and even if you can’t make the event itself make sure to stop by Monument Circle during the holiday season before the lights are gone!

2.       Carmel Christkindlmarkt

Another holiday event that’s worth the drive is Carmel’s Christkindlmarkt, bringing German tradition to Central Indiana. Taste some delicious traditional German fare from savory Wursts and Raclette to sweet Lebkuchen and Stollen. And don’t forget the Glühwein! There are also dozens of vendors to peruse and unique entertainment to enjoy throughout the holiday season. Check out their website for hours of operation as well as a map of the area.

3.       Conner Prairie

If you grew up anywhere near Central Indiana, Connor Prairie was a staple of your childhood. The uniquely immersive history lesson adds a fun layer to learning about Indiana’s past and is a great place for Hoosiers of all ages no matter what time of year it is, but it’s particularly spectacular around the holidays with events such as Connor Prairie by Candlelight and Gingerbread Village.

4.       Indiana Repertory Theatre

Want to add a bit of culture and class to your winter? Check out the IRT! Each season at the IRT promises a journey of nine plays crafted specifically with their audience in mind. Founded in 1972, the Indiana Repertory Theatre has a strong history of delighting Hoosiers of all ages and remains the largest fully professional resident not-for-profit theatre in Indiana. Check out what they have on stage today!

5.       Ice Plaza

Arguably the best outdoor ice rink in the northern Indy burbs, Ice Plaza at Federal Hill Commons in Noblesville. Open the day after Thanksgiving through mid-January, the admission cost includes skate rental and all day skating so you can skate, go to a local restaurant or shop for a break, then come back that day for no additional cost! There are also lots of fun theme nights, so check out their website for more info!

6.       Koteewi Run

Open mid-December through February (or March if conditions allow), Koteewi Run is as fun to slide down as it is to say! No experience necessary, so even if you’ve never gone snow tubing before you’re guaranteed to have a good time. So bundle up and grab a group of friends to have a wonderful winter experience.

7.       The Rink at Hamilton Town Center

Another fantastic option for ice skating, the Rink at Hamilton Town Center uses faux-ice, so the hours of operation may not be as determined by the weather. Hamilton Town Center also offers tons of shopping options for any holiday shopping you need to do, and a wide variety of restaurants to enjoy before or after skating!

8.       Federal Hill Commons

Regardless of if you’re into skating or if the rink is open, Federal Hill Commons is a great place year-round. The urban park and amphitheater opened in 2016 and has become a hub of fun for all ages. Check out their website to see what events are happening this month, and stop by whenever they’re open to enjoy the commons regardless of scheduled events!

9.       Pint Cycle Holiday Lights Tour

What better way to celebrate the holiday season than a close-up tour of the Fishers city center holiday lights? Stopping at local breweries and bars at the same time!
